Broadsheet Restaurant

Went to the Broadsheet restaurant at about 11 a.m. today. It wasn't very busy which was quite surprising. After all, food markets and the like have always been very popular. It is on from the 5th of June to the 2nd of Aug with a separate day and nighttime menu. We had:

Toasted Reuben sandwich on dark rye with corned brisket, sauerkraut, Swiss and Russian dressing from Five Points Deli (AU$17) - Generous, juicy and tasty. Well done and it certainly makes us want to check out Five Points Deli.

Roasted yellow duck curry with jasmine rice from Coda (AU$24) - Simple duck leg curry. However, a bit too sweet and would have loved a bit more of the spice mixture to come through. Also, there was nothing else in the curry; just the meat and sauce. Surely some vegetables would have gone into the curry? Disappointed with it.

Grand Trailer Park Taverna

Sitting above the corner of Bourke and Russell Streets, Grand Trailer Park Taverna is a cool concept and certainly has a wonderful atmosphere. Only complaint was that the staff were a little too quick in wanting to clear the tables without even asking. We were going to have dessert but after the poor service, we left in a hurry. We had two burgers(but only reviewing one) and a shake(not spiked):

KSA -  Premium Aussie beef patter,  American cheddar cheese, tomato, butter lettuce, special burger sauce and American mustard on a lightly toasted brioche bun. It is certainly a delicious burger. A smaller burger compared to the others on the list but if you are after a no-frills burger, you can't go wrong with this one.

Salted caramel and maple bacon milkshake - had this without the alcohol. Presentation was good especially with the piece of maple bacon. Tasted a bit average as far as milkshakes go though.

BOY and Co.

BOY and Co. is extremely popular among school kids. We have never eaten in a place where 90 percent of the staff and patrons are under the age of 15! At least that is the impression we got when we were there on a Saturday afternoon. It serves two things: milkshakes and fries. We decided to give it a go despite reading some mixed reviews and it was actually pretty good. All in all, a good spot to come to for a snack and drink. We had:

American pie milkshake - apple pie and shortbread in a shake. Tastes good, it was thick and you can definitely taste pieces of shortbread throughout.

Black and white - cookies and cream shake. Again, a thick shake done well with good flavour and consistency.

Sweet potato fries with saffron and garlic aioli. Complimentary sauces are available at the tables. Otherwise, different sauces are available for an extra charge. The aioli was alright but may be better suited with the fries. The sweet potato fries were crunchy and delicious. Good accompaniment to the shakes.

Mr Burger

Mr burger is the closest burger joint to where we live and it is very good indeed. What started out as a food truck(it still operates) is very popular and they have added quite a few things to their menu recently including the burger reviewed below and milkshakes(which are quite good). So, we had:

Mr Hot - beef patty, cheese, onion, onion rings, chilli Mayo and jalapeños. The jalapeños give this burger a nice kick. Some places serve up jalapeños that are just too mild. Definitely no confusion here and suits its name perfectly. Had a double beef patty and the other ingredients go very well together. Generous, the beef was cooked to perfection, juicy and slightly pink. A must try and Mr Hot is a good alternative to Mr Meat which is another favourite of ours.
